Born on 1983. Italian.
I have a Laurea Degree (equivalent to a Bsc) and a Laurea Specialistica Degree (equivalent to a Msc) in Computer Engineering.
Former Italian chess junior champion.

I like to read and understand how the world works, but I also hope to be able to produce something useful in my life.

Did university studies on computer engineering because I thought that understanding technology is a prerequisite to understand our society in this century.
  • So I follow science and tech news ( Wired of course ) and got interested on the singularity concept.
  • Pretty hooked on the tech startup world either, and I connect to Hackernews several times a day.
  • From hackernews I also learned a lot about hacking, and now I like to learn and play with many programming languages and understand different programming paradigms ( Java, C#,Common Lisp, Clojure, Ruby, Python).
  • Found consciousness and intelligence the most puzzling things in the world since childlhood, so I like to learn about artificial intelligence as well. Marcus Hutter and Shane Legg work which defines intelligence mathematically left a big impression to me. I think Machine Learning (coupled with neuroscience) is a field which can make a lot of progress on this area.

Did some readings on economics too, and found it fascinating even thought macroeconomics seemed a bit a "vodoo" science to me. Started with Principles of Economics of Greg Mankiw and his blog, then others lectures online, and then a bit of finance starting with "A Random Walk down Wall Street" and then Nassim Taleb books. I plan to come back to economics and to the Austrian School. For a guy like me who grew up a bit on the left wing on political matters Austrian Economics and Libertarianism were a stimulating change of perspective. I still have a feeling they are wrong.

After learning about singularity and Aubrey de Grey's SENS project I started researching about health and longevity. So I study nutrition and exercise and found many ideas which are against conventional wisdom.

I like to write (in Italian of course) and I read to sharp my writing skills. I love citations and witty and sarcastic remarks.

I read some of the classics personal development books, then studied a bit of Neuro-linguistic programming to see if there was something in it and not just a bunch of "I am the best in the world" statements.

Played some poker for fun and read something about it.

In my childhood and adolescence I played and studied chess a lot. I was Italian Champion in my age group many times and represented my country in international competitions. I decided to give up chess because it was taking too much time and I understood I knew nothing of the world. Still think chess is great, addictive and probabily the most exciting thing you can do without removing your clothes.

Basically I am an avid reader of everything but also, stealing a quote from Nassim Taleb, “someone of epistemic humility, who holds his own knowledge in greatest suspicion” .
